Accurate data on the quantity of seawater used in the desalination process at the KORINTHOS POWER S.A. power plant were not available for 2012 and, con-
sequently, were not included in the relevant indicator.
*
Of this total quantity, 99% represents used cooling water discharged by MOTOR OIL and supplied to the KORINTHOS POWER S.A. desalination plant, after which
it is used in the steam generation process which drives the wind turbine in the company's power plant. The volume of water recycled is approximately 246,000
m
3
/year.

T
otal water consumption for our Group’s
activities in 2013 did not post a sig-
nificant change (-0.3%) from 2012. Of the
total quantity of water consumed, 89% was
drawn from groundwater and 5.1% from
municipal water supply companies, 5.4%
refers to seawater which is used in the cool-
ing systems of our power plants and then
discharged, and the remaining 0.5% repre-
sents rainwater quantities collected for con-
sumption.
The quantity of water required in the Met-
allurgy & Mining sector is around 14,000
m
3
/day and is obtained from a network of
20 wells drilled and operated by
ALUMINIUM S.A. in the broader region
around its plant, in strict compliance with
the provisions of the relevant Decision of
the Water Resources Management Direc-
torate of the Sterea Regional Administra-
tion.
The company applies a programme for re-
cycling the water used in its activities and
making it available for secondary uses
such as the watering of green areas in near-
by settlements.
In the Energy sector and, more specifi-
cally in the thermal power plant of
KORINTHOS POWER S.A., a Desalination
Plant is in operation, using seawater to pro-
duce water for industrial use. This helps
avoid the consumption of primary water
from the wells drilled or from other
sources, while also helping achieve water
savings estimated at over 2,000 m
3
per
month. Considering that water is used by
the Group’s power plants for the produc-
tion of electricity, the setting of targets is
not feasible.
