METLEN expands its portfolio in Italy with strategic investments in storage projects.

METLEN Energy & Metals continues to reinforce its commitment to supporting Italy's energy transition with the implementation of two new battery energy projects, which secured contracts in the Capacity Market auctions for the 2025/26 period.

Specifically, METLEN has secured 15-year contracts for the development of the following projects:

  1. 25 MW, 3-hour Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in the Apulia region (Erchie Storage), awarded in the CM 2025 procedure.
  2. 25 MW, 3-hour Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in the Apulia region (San Severo Storage), awarded in the CM 2026 procedure.

Additionally, METLEN participated in the 2024 Capacity Market auction, securing a 25 MW, 2-hour Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Apulia region (Brindisi), as well as an 8 MW, 1-hour Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) under the Fast Reserve Pilot Project in Sardinia (Cheremule), which has been operational since January 2024.

Italy holds a pivotal role in METLEN’s European strategy, thanks to its unique combination of geographic, regulatory, and energy-related advantages. The country’s favorable climate, with abundant sunshine and wind, creates ideal conditions for renewable energy development, particularly solar and wind power.

METLEN’s extensive portfolio in Italy includes over 180 projects, totaling 3.7 GW, spread across 15 of the country’s 20 regions, and continues to invest in cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions to drive the energy transition forward.
