  • Greece and Bulgaria strengthen energy cooperation, with METLEN playing a pivotal role.
  • METLEN hosts BNGA Meeting of the Management Team, showcasing Greece’s energy leadership.

The Meeting of the Management Team of the Bulgarian Natural Gas Association (BNGA)  was hosted this year by METLEN at the company's headquarters in Maroussi.

The choice of METLEN was not only institutional, but also strategic, as the company has gained a leading position in the distribution and supply of natural gas in Southeastern Europe, while at the same time investing in renewable sources and storage projects. The fact that the Meeting of the Management Team of BNGA was at the offices of a global company with a strong presence in Bulgaria underscores METLEN’s importance in the region’s evolving energy landscape.

Furthermore, BNGA’s presence in Greece highlights the country’s role as a natural energy hub between Europe, the Middle East, and the Balkans, and the shared vision of Greece and Bulgaria for more integrated gas markets, enhanced interconnectivity, and cross-border cooperation. Within this context, METLEN acts as a catalyst, bringing together key players to develop solutions that promote energy security, competitive pricing, and stability.

The official opening of the Meeting was preceded by a special visit to the industrial facilities of Aluminium of Greece in Agios Nikolaos, Viotia, where the Management Team had the opportunity to tour the factory and learn about how METLEN connects the production of industrial metals with the most modern energy solutions. The visit highlighted the company's advantage in combining the industrial and energy sectors, "unlocking" unique synergies.

The Meeting, held the following day at METLEN’s headquarters, brought together representatives from leading sector companies, including Overgas Mrezhi, Bulgartransgaz, Aresgas, Avtometan, Tassy, Gastechnika, and Generix Partners, alongside METLEN’s senior executives.

It is worth noting that BNGA was established to promote the development of the natural gas sector in Bulgaria and the wider region and serves as a key institutional stakeholder in regulatory, investment, and energy policy matters. Through its active role in working groups, policy dialogues, and specialized projects, BNGA has become a central voice for coordination and representation within the sector.

With its dual role as both an industrial producer and an energy leader, METLEN stands at the forefront of developments, shaping the energy transition in Southeast Europe. Notably, the Meeting coincided with METLEN’s recent acquisition of 75% of the energy trading operations of Bulgaria’s Most Energy, a €6.8 million transaction that strengthens METLEN’s physical presence in Sofia, expanding access to nearly 900 industrial and commercial high-consumption clients and a balancing market portfolio exceeding 140 participants.
