METLEN has signed a 10-year PPA with iliad Italia, the telecommunications operator who put trust, innovation and affordable offerings at the centre, for the supply of solar energy from two utility-scale solar farms located in Italy. iliad Italia is part of iliad Group, the fifth largest telecommunications operator in Europe.
With a combined capacity of 15 MW and grid connection planned for end of 2025, the plants will guarantee to iliad 20 GWh of clean electricity annually—equivalent to avoiding over 5,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year. The electricity generated will be injected into the national grid, covering a significant share of Iliad’s electricity demand in Italy and contributing to its group-wide sustainability roadmap.
This agreement represents a strategic milestone for both companies. For iliad, it marks a concrete step toward achieving its climate commitments by directly sourcing renewable electricity to power its operations across Italy. For METLEN, the transaction reinforces its position as a key enabler of Italy’s decarbonization, leveraging its fully integrated development and execution platform to deliver bankable, long-term renewable energy solutions to leading corporates.
The two projects have been developed entirely in-house by METLEN, which will also carry out the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC). The PPA is part of METLEN’s growing portfolio of corporate offtake agreements across Europe and underscores its strategic role in enabling private sector participation in the energy transition.
As Italy intensifies its efforts to meet EU climate targets and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy, corporate PPAs like this one are playing a critical role in scaling up private investment, enhancing grid decarbonization, and ensuring energy price stability for businesses.
“This agreement with Iliad represents a flagship transaction for our Italian portfolio and a blueprint for future corporate partnerships supporting Italy’s energy transition,” said Nikos Papapetrou, Executive Director, M Renewables, METLEN. “It demonstrates our commitment to delivering competitive and clean power to end users while accelerating national climate ambitions”, he added.
"This new agreement represents another step forward in our journey toward sustainability and adds to the one announced last year, bringing us closer to our goal of covering 50% of our direct energy consumption with renewable energy through PPAs by 2035," commented Benedetto Levi, CEO of iliad Italia. "We continue to take concrete action to reduce our impact on the climate and to contribute to the country's overall energy capacity."
METLEN was advised by Parola Associati on legal aspects and Our New Energy (one) on commercial structuring.
