Protergia to the horizon of innovation

Protergia, MYTILINEOS’ Power and Gas Business Unit, the largest private energy company, with the steadfast priority of creating added value for its customers, is keeping abreast with the global energy market developments, and is strategically opting for participating in international initiatives developing new energy services. 

To this end, in the last cycle of “HORIZON 2020” initiative, which served as the European Union's financial framework for Research and Innovation over the last seven years, the company was involved in 4 new projects:     

• OneNet: For the creation of a new generation of electricity network services, with fair, transparent and open conditions for the final consumer
• TwinERGY: For the creation of a digital toolbox for consumers through attractive and easy to use applications
• Beyond: For the creation of an advanced technology platform (AI) aimed at providing innovative energy services in the building sector
• Accept: For the creation of a digital toolbox for the energy communities

The Company’s long-term target is to be able to transfer knowledge and experience acquired through its participation in European projects, in the procurement of innovative projects and in the provision of man-centered services.

In parallel to the new projects, Protergia already participates in 3 additional projects in the context of ‘HORIZON 2020’:

• UtilitEE:  that offers a set of guidelines on energy behavior change focusing on the final consumer
• Holisder: for the reduction of consumers’ energy cost (~ 45%) and the stabilization of energy grids
• INTERRFACE: that aims at the planning, development and use of an interoperable pan-European architecture for electricity network services

Participation is structured in such a way so as to ensure joint ventures of high level, with the contribution of senior academic institutions of wide acclaim, Transmission and Distribution System Operators, Energy Stock Exchange, research and information technology companies, new and promising start-up businesses.

Both the “HORIZON 2020” program as well as the new “Horizon Europe” program spanning across the next seven-year period aim at the strategic investment in new technologies and at facing significant social challenges, such as the depletion of energy resources or coping with climate change.
