MYTILINEOS contributes to educational programs and initiatives

MYTILINEOS Energy & Metals systematically invests in the education of young people, facilitating the learning process and reducing inequalities. The Company contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals by consistently implementing its social policy through actions and initiatives that enhance its coexistence with local communities and the broader society. MYTILINEOS’ initiatives are approaching an increasing part of the student and educational community through the implementation of training programs in the areas of new technologies in schools, as well as programs for professional skills development of the new generation.

During the 2021-2022 school year, MYTILINEOS implemented six innovative educational programs, benefiting more than 10,000 students throughout Greece. In this context, the Company decided to proceed with the implementation of eight innovative experiential programs for the school year 2022-2023, benefiting more than 14,000 students.

In particular:

UN Sustainable Development Goal: Zero hunger

 

Program: Diatrofi

The Program on Food Aid and Promotion of Healthy Nutrition program aims to combat food insecurity and hunger experienced by students in vulnerable areas of the country. As part of the program, free daily healthy meals are offered to all schools selected based on socio-economic criteria and actions are implemented that encourage the adoption of healthy eating habits by students and their families. In cooperation with the Prolepsis Institute for one more year, a total of 6 schools in the Prefectures of Viotia and Magnesia joined the Diatrofi Program, benefiting 180 students.

 

Program: Boroume (“We Can”) at School 

MYTILINEOS launches its cooperation with the “Boroume (We Can)” organization by implementing the “We Can” at School program and benefiting more than 2,000 students. The program aims to inform and raise awareness among students on food waste, volunteering, and social contribution through experiential activities.

 

UN Sustainable Development Goal: Quality Education

 

Program: The Tipping Point

The experiential educational program “The Tipping Point” enables students to learn more about the studies or profession they want to follow and to be properly prepared in view of the important academic and professional decisions they will be called upon to take. The Company continues its cooperation with 40 schools in Greece and abroad, benefiting more than 4,000 students, who will be able to contact successful professionals using technology and receive answers to questions about their future.

 

Program: Renewable Energy Sources & Hydrogen Technology Program

MYTILINEOS, realizing the potential of the teaching method S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), as well as the necessity of the wider modernization of Greek schools, provides "Gigo light and Solar Energy" and "Gigo Wind Power" equipment in Secondary Education state schools. This way, hundreds of students develop their imagination, technological and scientific skills and at the same time learn about renewable energy sources and the importance of “green” energy. In collaboration with WRO Hellas organization, the Company continues its offer to 20 schools in total, benefiting more than 1,500 students throughout Greece.

 

UN Sustainable Development Goal: Reduced Inequalities

 

Program: Focus on the Person & Asking to Learn

Setting as a priority the assurance of equal opportunities and the reduction of inequalities, MYTILINEOS, in cooperation with the “Association of Social Responsibility for Children and Youth” chose an innovative educational program for students and teachers, in order to contribute to the change of attitude and mentality regarding disability by bringing down bad practices, stereotypes and prejudices. Continuing the program for the current school year in more than 40 schools of Attica, more than 2,000 students are given the opportunity to accept diversity, but also to understand concepts such as: Disability, Impaired Individuals, Accessibility, Access and Inclusive Communication.

 

UN Sustainable Development Goal: Climate action

 

Program: Green Future

MYTILINEOS launches its partnership with the organization “we4all” by implementing the Green Future program focusing on environmental education. During the school year 2022-2023, more than 700 students of Attica are trained focusing on the problems our planet faces and how we can live in an environmentally friendly way. The program includes exercise/tree planting in the school area, enabling children better capture the knowledge they acquired.

 

Program: Circular Economy and Zero Waste at Schools

Under one more partnership, this time with the organization No Waste21, the program is implemented aiming at education, information and awareness raising actions in 20 primary schools in the Prefecture of Viotia, addressing more than 3,000 students, but also teachers with modern educational methods. The project aims to enhance the information and sensitization of school communities on Circular Economy and Zero Waste issues with emphasis on Prevention, Reuse and Recycling.

 

Program: Bee Planet   

The program “Melissa (Bee) Planet” engages trained and experienced instructors, who through properly designed syllabus but also dedicated beekeeping equipment, bring the student community in contact with the world of bees and beekeeping, and the relationship of the bee with the environment, its offer, its products and its life-threatening risks. The Company, in cooperation with the Association of Attica Beekeepers, implements the program during the current school year, for a total of 15 schools in the prefectures of Attica & Viotia, benefiting more than 1,000 students.

The programs form part of the Responsible Entrepreneurship actions by MYTILINEOS implemented to "Tackle Climate Change" "Promote the Reduction of Inequalities" and "Consistency in Social Responsibility", three out of the six main tenets endorsed in the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
