F
or our Group, ensuring conditions of
Health and Safety in our work areas is a
core principle and the foundation of all op-
erations. As a business Group active prima-
rily in the heavy industries sector, we consider
that the health of our employees and their life
itself should not be exposed to any risk – and
the same applies for the employees of inde-
pendent contractors working for us. This view
is affirmed by our Group's formal policy, as
well as by the fact that, to ensure health and
safety in their work areas, all our subsidiaries
apply a Health & Safety Management System
certified in accordance with the OHSAS
18001 International Standard and designed
to minimise risk, achieve continuous im-
provement in terms of reducing accidents
and occupational diseases, and strengthen a
safe work culture. To this end, in 2013
PROTERGIA S.A. was again monitored in con-
nection with the application of this specific
standard, while METKA S.A. implemented all
its construction projects according to opti-
mal Health & Safety requirements, without
accidents or incidents which might harm the
health of its employees. In addition, METKA
S.A. has in place in each construction site or
plant a Health & Safety Committee, in which
both the company’s Management and its em-
ployees are represented. In all company
sites specialised personnel is on duty at all
times to handle Health & Safety issues, First
Aid services are provided (personnel & equip-
ment), and an Ambulance and Occupation-
al Physician are available. The percentage of
company personnel represented in these
committees exceeds 75%.
With regard to our aggregate performance
in 2013, we regret to report that a total of
